How to onboard new hires with video?

If you followed our playbook chapters from the start, you've learned to recruit talentful new employees with video in your job ads and by adding video to your application process. In this next step we will share how to prepare your new team member joining your company by using video during onboarding.  Let's first start by creating a video that explains what your new colleague can expect on their first working day. Things to include in the video are for example:
  • What time do we start?
  • What time do we have lunch?
  • Information about recurring meetings (stand-up/team meeting)
  • The tools we are using
In addition to the basic information you could also create a couple of default videos that explain:
  • Who you are as a company
  • Your products and services
  • Your customers
  • Processes per department
Video helps to successfully onboard your new employee and make him feel welcomed and familiar with your culture right from the start. Therefore it's important to get your whole team involved in creating videos; this way you can show off your teams personality, which adds a human element to your employer brand.
And it works both ways! So when onboarding a new employee, ask them to introduce themselves in video that you can share with your team too. This will get new hires involved into the process of video creation from the beginning, and will result into a continues flow of videos coming in, since it's incorporated into your culture.
